N.O. man sentenced for credit card scam
Jerome McNeil, 31, of New Orleans was sentenced to 48 months in prison for his part in a credit card scam involving cashiers at stores in The Esplanade mall in Kenner.Federal prosecutors say McNeil recruited mall workers to skim credit card information from shoppers that he would encode into other cards he used to make purchases of electronics, clothing and other items. McNeil and his accomplice, Jonathan Green, would then sell the merchandise on the street at half price. Green pled guilty in a separate cases. He testified in federal court that he and McNeil were earning between $6,000 and $8,000 in cash a day during the scam. They went so far as to advertise their enterprise on business cards with the name You Want It, We Got It and their phone numbers. In addition to his prison sentence, McNeil was also ordered to pay $35,000 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release.
